The federal poverty level (FPL) is the amount of annualized income earned by a household, in which the houehold must be within the limits in order to receive certain welfare benefits. FPL is based on the number of people in a household along with a family’s pre-tax income. FLP is used to determine a household’s eligibility for different assistance programs such as Medicaid, Chip, or housing vouchers.
The FPL is updated annually due to inflation and it will vary by each state.
